When I decided to open Ear Level Communications, I decided to start from the ground up. I had been in the hearing healthcare business for quite a few years, and I saw what I considered to be a fatal flaw in most practices. They weren’t designed with the needs of the consumer in mind. Part of the problem, in my opinion is that none of us are actually in the “Hearing Healthcare” business. Neither is any other hearing instrument specialist or audiologist.
Let me explain: You see, your doctor is in the healthcare business. He diagnoses, treats, and cures disease. He or she does something we could never do; diagnose you with a condition and treat it. People in my line of work (whether it be state licensed dispensers, Nationally Certified Specialists, or Audiologists-even at the doctoral level) are not medical doctors. We don’t treat conditions, we provide relief from symptoms. We’re in the communication business. Because of this distinction, I saw no reason to make my offices feel clinical.
I also decided to open my office for extended hours. We're open until 6 on weekdays (later with an appointment), and on Saturdays by appointment. I’d like to do everything I can to make it convenient for you to do business with me. I don’t want you to be inconvenienced by having to take off work so I can hold “normal hours”. We can find a time to see you that works for you.
Another big difference at Ear Level is our equipment. We offer a wide range of hearing aids and prices for our products, and we back up those instruments with the most advanced fitting equipment available. What good is a fantastic hearing aid fit with equipment that was available 20 years ago? Each of our offices is equipped with software based audiometry for state of the art testing, video otoscopy, large flat panel monitors, and most importantly live speech mapping technology. If your hearing aid professional is asking you to spend thousands today, but is still using the same equipment he was using 10 years ago, that would suggest to me that he is unwilling to invest in his clients ’ results. I think you’re worth it.
